Directed by Raam Reddy, the Kannada film premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland last year. It took home ‘Pardo d’oro Cineasti Del Presente Premio Nescens’ (Golden Leopard, Filmmakers of the Present Competition) and ‘Swatch First Feature Award’ for the best debut feature.
‘Thithi’ also went on to win the Jury Grand Prize at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2015.
“It began with international acclaim and support from legends like Francis Ford Coppola. National support and praise from people like Anurag Kashyap and other top national industry leaders has been incredibly encouraging. After seeing the unprecedented response to ‘Sairat,’ running with English subtitles for national audiences, I can’t wait to see the response to Thithi nationally,” says the Bangalore-based filmmaker.
Francis Ford Coppola called ‘Thithi’ joyous with unforgettable characters. “I want to grow up and be like Century Gowda,” he said in his review.
The film was also selected for 2016 New Directors/New Films, New York’s annual film festival.
Backed by Pratap Reddy and Sunmin Park, ‘Thithi’ has already won wide critical acclaim nationally and globally. According to a recent buzz, it could be the first Kannada film to become India’s official entry to the Oscars!
The National Award-winning film is set to release across India on June 3 with English subtitles. Check out the trailer here:
