The countdown begins! 48 hours to go (as I write this). One of my most awaited films of 2016 (because Sidharth Malhotra!) Kapoor and Sons is set to hit the screens this Friday. The trio – Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan – were in town (Le Meridian, Delhi) yesterday to promote the ensemble family drama that also features Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak, Rajat Kapoor.
The 5-film old Alia Bhatt who turned 23 yesterday, has been on a rollercoaster ride in her short, 4-year career. Her glamorous début Student of the Year (2012) may not have done much for her but her sophomore effort Highway roaringly marked her arrival as an actress. She followed it up Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya (2014) and 2 States (2014), both of which solidified her position in the industry. Bhatt who was last seen in the tepid and very forgettable Shaandaar (2015), seemed all excited and nervous for this one. “A little bit of nervousness should be there, that’s how you go a long way,” she quips.

The young actress recently spoke about her desire to go the West. But there’s time before she takes the leap. She also cleared up rumours of working in the Aashiqui series opposite Hrithik Roshan, under father Mahesh Bhatt’s production. “I really wish I was doing a Hollywood film but I am not. There’s no Aashiqui happening for me either.”
Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan, who amassed popularity from his TV shows Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Humsafar, made a promising début with Khoobsurat in 2014. Reports were abuzz recently about the star having rejected pk (2014) to work in Kapoor and Sons. He clarified that he was actually “never offered any role in the film.”
More than anyone else, it’s Sidharth Malhotra who needs this film to work for him. Despite my louuv for him (and I hate to say this!), the only feather in his hat so far is Hasee Toh Phasee (2014). Talking of Kapoor and Sons, Sidharth said, “This is not a love triangle. It’s the story of a family. We’re all playing a very small part in this ensemble. I am sure the audience will connect with it.”
I really hope he gives a career-turning performance in this one. Crossing fingers!
